Phase 1: Immediate Response
Global Empowerment Mission, in partnership with First Lady Ana Lucia Pineda’s Fundación Colombia Luz y Sonrisas and Fundación Solidaridad de Colombia, launched an immediate response following the devastating earthquake in Colombia. Our GEM Latin America, GEM Headquarters and GEM Emergency Response Teams have been on the ground, distributing critical emergency humanitarian aid in the hardest-hit areas since August 12th.
- Phase 1 focused on immediate relief, providing food, water, hygiene supplies, tents, bedding and other life-sustaining aid.
- Phase 2 will focus on early recovery and rebuilding, helping communities stabilize and begin moving forward with dignity.
As we transition into Phase 2 beginning August 29, GEM will place an increased emphasis on in-country local procurement, working with suppliers and partners within Colombia to source essential goods and materials closer to the communities we serve. This approach allows resources to reach families faster, strengthens local economies, and enables GEM to direct more support toward long-term recovery. At this same time, GEM’s Headquarters in Florida will transition to supporting Colombia through long-term efforts, and will no longer be accepting physical in-kind donations for this response.
Aid distributions will continue throughout affected regions as needs evolve, while our focus expands to include recovery, rebuilding and long-term assistance programs.
With decades of global disaster response experience, GEM is committed to rapid, transparent and dignified aid delivery and efforts. Financial contributions are especially valuable during this phase, allowing GEM to respond to evolving needs and restoring livelihoods.
Together with our partners and supporters, we stand with the people of Colombia as communities move from immediate relief toward recovery and rebuilding.
GEM previously has operated in Colombia, supporting first responders after the major wildfires in January 2024.
