Miami Mobilizes Aid for Earthquake Victims in Colombia

Phase 1: Immediate Response

Global Empowerment Mission, in partnership with Solidaridad de Colombia and Motorrad Angels, has launched an immediate response following the devastating earthquake in Colombia. Our GEM Latin America, GEM Headquarters and GEM Emergency Response Teams are already on the ground, coordinating with local partners and beginning urgent distributions of vital necessities in the hardest-hit areas.

Starting August 12, teams will carry out daily distributions across the affected regions, ensuring emergency supplies reach families in urgent need.

  • Phase 1 focuses on immediate relief, providing food, water, hygiene supplies, tents, bedding and other life-sustaining aid.
  • Phase 2 will support early recovery, helping communities stabilize and begin rebuilding with dignity.

With decades of global disaster response experience, GEM is committed to rapid, transparent and dignified aid delivery. As needs evolve, our teams will adapt and scale operations in collaboration with local partners.

Together with our partners and supporters, we stand with the people of Colombia in this critical moment.

 

GEM previously has operated in Colombia, supporting first responders after the major wildfires in January 2024.

On the evening of June 24th, back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela, with a 7.1 magnitude quake followed roughly a minute later by an even stronger 7.5 magnitude quake, centered just west of the capital. Buildings have collapsed across Caracas, where rescue crews are searching for survivors.

Early June 8th, The Philippines most populous island of Mindanao was struck by a 7.8 magnitude quake. Immediately, infrastructure was severely damaged and tsunami warnings were put in place for the region.

GEM is presently on the ground in Enid, Oklahoma where a massive tornado destroyed over 40 homes and tore through neighbourhoods. Considered the strongest tornado of the year, so far, the storm has caused disruptions to power and water systems and to the Vance Air Force Base.

Multiple wildfires are currently burning throughout the state of Georgia, with containment efforts stalled due to dry conditions and high winds. The fires have destroyed dozens of homes, forced evacuations in many communities, and put +1,000 more structures at risk.
